Best value supplier for tongue/groove pine?
I have done some research regarding this but I am still unsure about best value suppliers, quality control, etc. Essentially, my back patio is covered with a roof, tied into the house roof. This was added to the house by the last owner, but there is no ceiling. This causes some recurring issues with wasps and birds deciding to live above my outdoor space. I want to put a ceiling in eventually and I've seen tongue and groove boards are a good (and easy, potentially cheap) option for roofing exterior spaces where ceiling joists available for nailing into. Any suggestions for an alternative (other than "fill a paper bag with air and enjoy up-close bird watching) or for a good supplier for a somewhat large quantity of 1×8 tongue and groove? Looks like 11.50 a board at Lowe's which seems ludicrous when I'll be putting probably 3 just end to end in one strip. Once the issue goes to a wholesaler I am just lost on what I'm to expect for price per foot, etc etc, and I was hoping that perhaps someone with contractor experience or similar, or someone who has done this before could share. Some info: I haven't taken a measurement yet as I'd like to have ducks in a row with regard to where I'm getting it and what I'm doing to it (it may turn out this isn't the best method) but if it matters, I'd estimate the ceiling is 20'×8'. I have a Lowe's and a Home Depot. It seems I have lumber/wood suppliers but I don't know if they've got tongue & groove. Looks like they just process trees or something. (I envy those who have the local warehouse that sells this that and the other type of wood cut to whatever length, width, and thickness) I'm fairly open to having it shipped but I'd prefer not to as the shipping looks outrageously expensive, understandable because it'll weigh like 400lbs if not more. Potentially stupid fact but maybe helpful: I have a fairly close Lumber Liquidators that may have what I'm looking for, again, not sure if it would be most cost effective or if there's a difference between tongue and groove boards and tongue and groove wood (not laminate) flooring. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated and I look forward to answering many, many questions. submitted by /u/Benhart_ [link] [comments]
