Charli XCX turned heads at Cannes’ Women in Motion dinner in a sheer Saint Laurent gown, sidestepping the festival’s naked dressing ban with a bold after-hours look.
Cannes may have banned sheer dresses and long trains on its main red carpet, but that's not enough to stop naked dressing at all the other events happening near the Croisette, adjacent to the film festival. Brat as ever, Charli XCX dared to wear a see-through dress herself on Sunday night for Kering's 2025 Women In Motion Awards and Cannes Film Festival Presidential Dinner, which celebrated women's creativity and impact in the film industry.
The pop provocateur arrived at the exclusive event in a daring and sheer Saint Laurent gown, for which she ditched a bra. She completed the ensemble with a dramatic, matching purple feather shrug that doubled as a train. The look, styled by Chris Horan, was dramatic and blended sensuality with old-Hollywood glamour. Charli XCX wore her signature long, black tresses down, accessorizing with minimal jewelry: only drop earrings. Her strappy sandal stilettos peaked out from beneath the transparent skirt.
Founded by luxury group Kering in 2015, the Women in Motion program at Cannes Film Festival highlights the contributions of women in cinema, providing a space for conversation, recognition, and celebration. But while the initiative champions trailblazing women behind the camera, Charli XCX reminded everyone that pushing boundaries on the red carpet—or in this case, at the dinner—is still very much her lane. With her Saint Laurent gown, she made sure all eyes were on her. 
Known for embracing naked dressing long before it was trending again, Charli has never shied away from a risky fashion moment. Her sheer ensemble certainly turned heads, especially considering the festival’s recently enforced ban on see-through gowns for official red carpet appearances. But as it turns out, the rules don’t seem to apply to after-hours events—and the 365 party girl knows exactly how to work that gray area.
With a reputation for never playing it safe, Charli XCX once again proves she’s as bold with her fashion as she is with her sound. Naked dressing, evidently, is still alive and well at Cannes.
