Clean water coming up through basement drain
Clean* water in basement drain? I've got a drain I recently discovered in basement when it flooded. It was under some carpeting the previous owners laid down and had what appeared to be a plug in it. The plug corroded and fell apart. Now I've got constantly rising water coming out of this drain. Pertinent information: -Old house, 78 yo, cast iron pipes in the foundation, the drain in question is at the lowest level -Water level continously rises without using any water related rhings(sink, showers, etc.) -the water itself is completely clear and has no smell whatsoever, I know what sewage smells/looks like and this ain't it. -I snaked the clean out for that drain as well as 2 other drains in the basement, which didn't seem to dislodge anything. -If I remove the clean out plug, the drain will drain into the clean out. Water will not rise above the lowest level of the clean out. -it hasn't rained in about 4-5 days - the house has French drains around it, we are in a very wet soil area -everything else in the house drains quickly/hasn't slowed down, and there's only one tree in the frontage. -I haven't been able to find the main sewer cleanout, and we have a bathroom in the basement(I think the toilet might have been the cleanout at one point) My main concern is that the drain is cracked. Im calling a plumber today, but as far as I can't tell it isn't a clog. Any other tips or tricks I should try? Are these surefire signs of anything? Is it really difficult to remove and cap it? Or at least replace it? Anything else to look for? I'll post photos in the comments for reference. I would just get a longer snake, but the fact that it's clear(not sewage) water concerns me. submitted by /u/swenmaus [link] [comments]
