Construction/Framing/Roofing Question About Eves
I've finished framing and sheathing a 16' x 10' standalone workshop with a slant roof. No roofing has been done yet and there are still bare rafters overhead. I told my helper on the framing part to give me an 18" overhang on the back (low side) of the building, and 24" on the front. But he goofed and got it backward; something I didn't notice until much later. Rafters are 2 x 6 on 16" centers. My solution is to bolt 2 x 6 extension pieces onto the existing rafters to give me a bigger overhang which will be covered with a soffit. These extensions will begin over the top of the wall, and be bolted to the existing rafter so that the first 18" would be 2 side-by-side beams, with the new extension adding about a foot to the overall length. My question is: is there anything wrong with this plan? Any downside I'm not thinking about? One more question for those that know roofing: are fascia boards typically installed before or after the OSB is laid for the roofing? Thanks for the help. submitted by /u/VoiceShow [link] [comments]
