Custom computer mouse for my paralyzed brother.
A little over half a year ago my brother was involved in a biking accident which left him paralyzed in his right arm. before his accident he loved to play video games and has felt the loss keenly since. I would like to build him a custom mouse to enable him to play again without needing his right hand. but after scouring the internet for two days I've yet to find any comprehensive tutorials or guides on how I might build and program a mouse from scratch. perhaps my research skills are lacking but i thought I'd reach out to those more versed in the subject than I and seek some advice. I'd like to use an esp32 or an Arduino nano to control it with as I have those on hand. as for the optical sensor, it's been more difficult to find but I suppose I could buy a mouse that has the sensor in it... or perhaps I could replace the optical sensor for a joystick? I've seen some videos from people who have done this before but I'm hitting walls with the coding since I don't know much in that regard. Right now, I'm trying to get an understanding of HID protocol so i can get a grasp of what exactly I'm getting myself into here. I'll try to stay active on here and post updates on what's happening with the build. goal is to give him a working prototype by Christmas and refine it to fit him after that. submitted by /u/DravenAzar [link] [comments]
