Bathroom fan gaps - best way to patch

Unsurprised to find the install wasn’t done well.** Fan: BROAN NUTONE MODEL T63RLN Issue= gaps in install: There are gaps on three of the four sides: the largest is a 1/2” gap. (Other two: 1/4, 1/3) What is my best course of action to fill these gaps? What Material should I use? Or should i take the whole thing down and re-install ? (Ie- drywall patch?) — Thank you from a single mom whose parents nor grandparents were handy, but is excitedly in over her head making home improvements (and mistakes). My successful toilet replacement gave me a false sense of confidence not realizing how easy that install actually is when I took out a wall and door next— i realized **This house is a nesting doll of poor installs - the microwave was the one that almost took the whole place out
