The FIA F4 Global Esports Championship has announced it will return for a second season following a successful debut in 2024.
The event, hosted by the FIA, motorsport’s world governing body and sim racing platform iRacing, will run from June to December 2025.
2025’s season will feature four events across eight rounds, where drivers from across the world will compete for a share of a $35,000 (~£26,382) prize pool. This is an increase of $10,000 (~£7,536) from the event’s debut season.
Qualification for the FIA F4 Global Esports Championship will commence as part of iRacing’s third season, which will begin in mid-June. The top ten drivers from each of the FIA F4 Regional Tour series will earn an invitation to compete in the championship.
The championship will hold events throughout October and November, with the final taking place on December 6th. Unlike other sim racing events, the track used for racing will be revealed 24 hours before a race takes place.
Each driver will use a fixed setup during a race to ensure all participants are racing on a level playing field.
Is Sim Racing Continuing to Grow?
Following its initial surge in popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic, sim racing remains one of the few esports where skills from the virtual racetrack can transition over to real-world motorsport.
The FIA continues to support a range of initiatives using sim racing to encourage young people to pursue a career in motorsport. In December 2024, the governing body approved an esports regulatory framework that will be used to regulate sim racing competitions and provide the legal framework required to host events on a national scale.
Following an initial surge five years ago, sim racing’s growth is still heading in an upward trajectory. As part of the Esports World Cup, the final of the RENNSPORT R1 Spring season will take place, featuring several notable sim racing rosters.
