Fortnite’s Blitz Royale Mode is one of the latest game modes introduced to Fortnite. This fast-paced battle royale is designed to work well on mobile devices, but it can also be played across platforms.

But what exactly is the Blitz Royale Mode in Fortnite, and how does it work? Let’s dive a little deeper into this new game mode to see what it’s about. We’re going over everything you need to know about the new Fortnite game mode in 2025.

What is Fortnite Blitz Royale Mode?

Blitz Royale is a new limited-time mode in Fortnite that was released on June 18, 2025. It is Zero Build, meaning that players cannot build structures in the game. This mode is designed for 32 players and is incredibly fast paced, with Victory Royales able to be achieved within five minutes.

Despite Blitz Royale being a limited-time Fortnite game mode, it is due to have new updates every week. At the time of writing, Blitz Royales is in its second week and has received an Avatar: The Last Airbender-themed update that allows players to use scrolls that give them air, water, fire, or earth-themed abilities.

What are the gameplay differences in Fortnite’s Blitz Royale mode?

One of the main differences between Blitz Royale and the other Fortnite modes is the Medallions that players are given at the beginning of a match. Each Medallion offers an advantage to gameplay, and every player receives the same one. Medallions are split into four categories: Offense, Movement, Healing, and Wildcard.

There are three Medallions for each category, and they are as follows:

Medallion TypeMedallion NameDescription
OffenseAspect of CombatIncreases damage inflicted by ranged weapons.
OffenseRingmaster ScarrProvides infinite Ammo and buffs all damage inflicted.
OffenseNight RoseYour weapon is constantly loading ammo.
MovementAspect of SpeedBuffs sprint speed, jump height. No fall damage after sprint-jump.
MovementShrouded StrikerJump is augmented and become invisible in sprint-jump.
MovementUnstoppableKnock back enemies you sprint into. Also increases sprint speed.
HealingAspect of SiphonGrants health or shields on enemy elimination.
HealingInfernal DefensesGain increased reload speed. Shield passively regenerates.
HealingThe MachinistRegenerated shield over time, caps up to 75 shields.
WildcardShogun XGain infinite stamina. While sprinting, cloak into the void.
WildcardMegalo DonGrants an infinite Nitro effect.
WildcardAspect of AgilityProves charges of Underworld Dash over time.

As well as a Medallion, players also get a unique weapon before the match. This gives each player the same advantage. Players can also pick up more Medallions by looting rare chests, supply crates, or the Golden Llama.

Another element of Blitz Royale that differs from other game modes is the Blitz Level system. As players survive the Storm Circles and eliminate other players, their Blitz Level will increase. One of the perks of increasing the Blitz Level is powerful Legendary and Exotic weapons, which are given to the player as they level up.

Boons are also given to players as they increase their Blitz Level. They can also be found in Rare Chests throughout the game. Boons are buffs that can give the player an advantage in combat, and they are split into the same four categories as Medallions. The Boons currently available in Blitz Royale are as follows:

Boon Type Boon NameDescription
OffenseFire Boon Reload your weapons faster.
OffenseVoid Boon Knocking players reveals others nearby.
MovementCombat AcrobatParkour partially reloads equipped weapon.
MovementAdrenaline RushGain the Slap effect when you Mantle, Hurdle or Wall Jump.
MovementWind BoonMove faster while your pickaxe is equipped.
HealingStorm Caller BoonReplenish shields in the storm.
HealingAgile Healer BoonSprint while using healing items and gain Slap after using.
WildcardReactive Ping BoonPlayers who attack you are marked.
WildcardVulture BoonEliminated enemies are briefly marked on the map.
WildcardGold Rush BoonOpening containers grants the Gold Rush effect.

The length of time that a Blitz Royale game takes is considerably shorter than the other game modes in Fortnite. A Blitz Royale game lasts around five minutes, sometimes less. A regular Battle Royale or Zero Build Battle Royale game can last around 20 minutes.

The map for Blitz Royale is also significantly smaller than most of the other Battle Royale modes (though it is about the same size or a little smaller than the Reload game mode). The condensed nature of the map also contributes to the quick play time.

Another significant difference is that Blitz Royale is a standout mobile game mode marketed as made for the mobile platform. That isn’t to say that it’s the only game mode that can be played on mobile, as many other game modes—including the Battle Royale modes—are easily playable on the mobile platform. However, Blitz Royale feels very much designed to be particularly mobile-friendly.

The fast-paced nature of the game mode emphasises this mobile-friendly design, as does the lack of building and the simple starting advantage system.

Conclusion

Blitz Royale is a fun new addition to Fortnite that lets players get straight into the action with high-octane gameplay. The short and sweet nature of each match makes it perfect for those who don’t have the time to commit to a full battle royale game with a lot more players. Blitz is a bite-sized version of battle royale, with key changes, such as the inclusion of Medallions, Boons, and the weekly updates, that keep things fresh and interesting.
