How do I replace this bathroom vent fan with a unique outlet shape?

This was a new home purchased about 10 years ago, and the fans are going (we discovered some years in that one of them was never working at all, and the other one no longer goes to a high speed when turning the switch on - it just runs continuously at a low speed). When I opened up the vent cover, I found that the fan has this rectangular plastic exit that clips into some kind of bracket, where you can see the more standard 4" pipe behind in the photos. Unfortunately, AirKing doesn't make this model of fan anymore, and every fan I can find at Home Depot seems to just have a 4" pipe exit. I also don't know if this 5-faced metallic cube that's there would need to be taken out or what - I haven't tried taking off any of the nuts to remove it. Also, that cover is huge and the hole in the drywall is 12" x 12" - are their fans these days with covers that big, or would I be able to use the old cover on a new fan? I'm pretty lost here. With a reasonable set of steps to follow I think I could do this, but I have no idea what kind of fan to buy and where to start. Thanks for any advice. submitted by /u/Jmadman311 [link] [comments]
