You can even buy some expensive alcohol on the side if you wish, but its main purpose right now is decoration rather than consumption. It only takes card purchases, so deposit some money into an ATM or businesses like the Laundromat before visiting. While you're free to put them in locations like your Motel room, you won't be able to spam them around the map.
