Team Secret IGL and the oldest VCT player, Jessie Cristy ‘JessieVash‘ Cuyco, has announced a break from competitive VALORANT following a successful five-year career.
The Filipino legend revealed exhaustion and negative feedback from the community as the reasons behind this decision.
“I feel like I have to step out to not affect the team and hopefully this break will help me get my energy back to compete again someday,” JessieVash shared on X (Twitter). “Thank you for all the support, I really appreciate it. I hope you guys will still support the team.”
Despite leaving pro play, JessieVash will continue to play VALORANT on Twitch and will also be watchpartying Team Secret’s matches.
“Don’t worry I’m still playing VALORANT and around, not retiring. Still here supporting you all,” he reassured his fans.
JessieVash has served Team Secret for over three years and has multiple titles under his belt such as APAC Predator League 2024 and VALO2ASIA Launch Invitational 2021. Moreover, he also led the team to international events, including VALORANT Masters Berlin and Champions 2021.
Jake Sin, Head of APAC VALORANT Esports, commented on the player’s decision: “VCT Pacific will never feel the same again. I mean, the average age of players just dropped by 13.5 years [laughing]. Jokes aside, massive respect to the Filipino legend for the longevity of his career and how he’s still been performing to this day.
“Saying it is a break and not a retirement speaks volumes about JessieVash’s dedication to the game. Get some well-deserved break goat, and see you on the other side soon!”
Apart from JessieVash’s departure, Team Secret also recently parted ways with its controller James ‘2GE’ Goopio. The organisation has signed Kelly ‘kellyS’ Sedillo from Global Esports and Sha ‘ZesBeeW’ Mohtar from Rival Esports as replacements for both players.
Team Secret failed to secure even a single series win in the Pacific Kickoff and finished last in the Stage 1 group stage, missing the playoffs entirely.
Thus, bringing in fresh faces could be the reset Team Secret needs to bounce back stronger in Esports World Cup qualifiers and Pacific Stage 2.
