Kali Uchis Opens up About Motherhood on "ILYSMIH"
Kali Uchis has released the second single from her forthcoming LP Sincerely, set to arrive in early May. Following the release of "Sunshine and Rain...," "ILYSMIH" is another slow jam that leans into the early soul influences seen in her early work, like Por Vida (2015).However, the song, which stands for the hook "I love you so much, it hurts," departs from the depressive lyrics of Por Vida songs like "Loner" to express the deeply felt emotions of motherhood. In verse two, she sings, "For oncе in my life, I'm not alone anymore. See, my hеart had a dream to be a part of a family. Yeah, it took some time, but this moment was worth all the pain" — contrasting with the "Loner" hook, "I'd rather be a loner,. I'd much rather be alone."Last week, the Colombian-American singer teased the single on her TikTok with footage of her and her baby saying she wrote the song "with my baby napping beside me after giving birth." In an official statement, Uchis also said "ILYSMIH is me sharing a piece of my heart with the world. Living a life that is rich in love and inner peace hasn’t come easy. I hope this song will find anyone who needs it.”"ILYSMIH" is out now everywhere, and Kali Uchis's next LP Sincerely, is slated to drop on May 9.
