Kieran Culkin and Bob Odenkirk Are Starring in Glengarry Glen Ross on Broadway, and Tickets Are Selling for More Than $1,000 Each

David Mamet's 1983 stage play Glengarry Glen Ross is probably best known these days for the 1992 film version starring Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Alec Baldwin and more. Full of cutting, often hilarious dialogue, and its fair share of pathos, the story of several desperate real-estate salesmen is a modern classic. And it's now getting a stage revival on Broadway, with tickets already selling for a price that even the slick Ricky Roma would approve of.

While this new version of Glengarry Glen Ross is still in previews at Manhattan's Palace Theatre, resell tickets are going for more than $1,000 on sites like StubHub... I believe you requested some information about Rio Rancho Properties, Madam?

Perhaps the inflated resell price is due in part to recent Oscar-winner Kieran Culkin being part of the cast. He plays the charismatic Roma, the role Al Pacino filled in the film version. But it's a stacked cast, including Better Call Saul's Bob Odenkirk as the washed-up Shelly "The Machine" Levene, Bill Burr as the fast-talking Dave Moss, and Michael McKean as the put-upon George Aaronow.

The current cast is only intended to be part of a 16-week engagment, which is no doubt also fueling the sales frenzy here. Gothamist reports that seats in the orchestra section were selling for $1,034 each on Stubhub yesterday. But the site also points out that there are still open seats available later in May, and resale prices are going for much more than a regular retail ticket.

I actually attended the show this week. My ticket was purchased before the show's run started, and I paid about $125 for a seat in the far right of the orchestra section (I became quite well-acquainted with the column I was sitting next to). As of this writing, a similar seat for this Saturday's matinee is selling on StubHub for $1302.

Gothamist also points out that while the resale market is driving prices up, the official website for the show has “dynamic pricing” which changes costs in real time -- typically resulting in higher prices too.

But hey, stocks, bonds, objects of art, real estate... even way over-priced Broadway shows. You know what Ricky Roma would say they are? An opportunity!
