Marvel and Arc System Works announce new fighting game

Marvel and Arc System Works (Arc) have joined forces to launch a new 2D tag-team fighting game title, MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls.

Revealed as part of the June edition of PlayStation’s State of Play broadcast, the FGC game is set to launch in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Steam and the Epic Games Store.

MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls is the latest fighting game involving the comic book publisher. Mostly known in the space for its Marvel vs. Capcom series, the company has a long history in the genre spanning the past two decades.

Fans familiar with the fighting game genre will also be aware of Arc System Works’ credentials. The Japanese developer has created fighting games for the Guilty Gear franchise and Dragon Ball FighterZ, both of which have featured in several esports tournaments.

“Since day one, our long-time and trusted collaborators at PlayStation and the team at Arc System Works have poured incredible amounts of talent and passion into reimagining the Marvel Universe in a way that only they can,” said Michael Francisco, Senior Product Development Manager at Marvel Games, while speaking to the PlayStation blog.

Marvel titles continue to have a presence at several high-profile esports tournaments. The 2025 edition of Evo will feature Marvel vs Capcom 2 as its Throwback Game, while Arc’s Guilty Gear – Strive and Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising will host tournaments in the main arena.

While both parties involved with Fighting Souls have a history in creating titles used in esports competitions, it’s unclear if this particular tag team fighting game will appear at events in 2026.

With tournament organisers in control of which titles appear at their respective events, there’s always a possibility of Fighting Souls making its esports debut sooner rather than later.

The FGC is experiencing a period of growth in 2025, with the likes of Riot Games launching its own two-versus-two fighting title 2XKO, which is bound to receive some support for its esports scene. As more titles are announced, excitement surrounding the genre and its future will continue to rise.
