PGL has announced it will host a Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) event in Kraków, Poland at the TAURON Arena in early 2027.
The event marks the city’s first Counter-Strike tournament operated by the event organiser since 2017. The tier one event will take place from January 13th, 2027, to January 25th, 2027, making it one of the first events to take place in the year.
Notably, PGL’s Krakow event clashes with the 2027 edition of the BLAST Bounty tournament which runs from January 12th until January 24th.
“PGL Major Kraków 2017 was a landmark moment for us and the esports community,” commented Silviu Stroie, CEO of PGL.
“The passion of the fans and the thrilling competition created unforgettable memories. We are excited to return to Kraków and build upon this legacy.”
Counter-Strike tournament organisers must announce upcoming events two years in advance following a change to Valve‘s tournament rulebook made in July 2024. First implemented in 2025, Counter-Strike’s developer and publisher revealed the change aims to ensure the shooter remains an open ecosystem.
PGL has previously hosted Counter-Strike events at Krakow’s TAURON Arena. The event organiser operated the 2017 Krakow Major where 16 teams competed for one of Counter-Strike’s biggest prizes.
Russian esports organisation Gambit Esports took victory in 2017’s Grand Final, defeating Immortals 2-1 to win $500,000 (~£403,645) in prize money.
PGL Krakow 2027 teams
With two years until the tournament is set to take place, PGL has yet to share details on teams participating and the event timetable. The clash with the 2027 edition of the BLAST Bounty will leave several teams with a decision to compete in one tournament or the other.
PGL says it will reveal information on participating teams, event schedule, and how fans can purchase tickets on its social media channels.
