ORIGINAL STORY: Rumor has it Sony will soon announce price cuts to both its base PS5 and PS5 Pro, but only in Europe. At least for now.

That's according to reliable leaker Billbil-kun, who has frequently — and correctly — given us a head's up on PlayStation announcements ahead of time on many prior occasions. Billbil-kun believes May's Days of Play 2025 promotion will be accompanied by cuts to its hardware, including a hefty €100 discount on the cost of standard PS5 consoles, and €50 off the PS5 Pro and PSVR2 headsets. It's also thought DualSense controllers will be available for €54.99. The leaker also speculates that Sony will be offering up its PlayStation Plus subscriptions with discounts of up to 30%.

As yet, however, there's no news on any discounts for U.S. gamers. This could either simply be that the news hasn't leaked Stateside yet, or because of the on-going uncertainties around the Trump administration's tariffs. In fact, earlier this month, it was speculated that Sony was considering price rises in the U.S. given tariffs will have a 100 billion yen (approx. $685 million) impact on Sony, assuming the tariffs already announced remain. Tariffs impact Sony because of its heavy involvement in hardware manufacturing, which of course includes video game consoles such as the PS5.

While 2025's Days of Play has yet to be formally announced, the leaker believes it'll all kick off this week, with an announcement of all offers and events scheduled for tomorrow, and the launch of the promotion itself on Wednesday, May 28. There's also reports of a number of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 hardware bundles, which are also rumored to be announced later this week, but again, we've only seen prices in euro, not in pounds or dollars, so we're unclear right now on where they'll be available.

Last month, Sony announced it was raising the recommended retail prices of PS5 consoles across Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. The company cited “a challenging economic environment, including high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates” as the catalyst for the increase. It was followed by a similar price bump for Microsoft's consoles at the beginning of May.
