Xtreme Gaming (XG) has announced a major roster shake-up ahead of Dota 2’s 2025 event calendar. It’s parting ways with recent additions like Lou ‘Lou‘ Zhen while bringing back seasoned talent like Zixing ‘XinQ‘ Zhao.
This overhaul possibly signals China’s renewed ambition to reclaim dominance in the Dota 2 scene.
In a post on X, Xtreme Gaming has announced overhauls for 2025, following recent performance setbacks.
Players leaving are Lou, Li ‘Niu‘ Kongbo, Xu ‘polosen‘ Jinwei and original coach Wang ‘Maps’ Yutian.
The post reads: “Thanks to the hard work of Maps, Ah Lou, Niu and Poloson during this period, countless precious moments were created because of your hard work and sweat. I hope you all will rise with the wind and meet again in the Jianghu Lake.”
Dota 2 players remaining on the team are Guo ‘XM’ Hongcheng, Li ‘Undyne‘ Zicheng, and manager Ye ‘Ye Yi‘ Goucheng.

China’s Big Comeback With Xtreme Gaming’s Change
This sudden change has come as a shock to many Dota 2 fans online, but many welcome what is now perceived to be a much stronger line-up.
This change possibly eludes to China’s determination to secure a win at The International (TI) 2025, hoping to see the same success as it has in other games such as VCT. But first, fans will see the new team in action in just a few days.
The post reads: “In addition, due to the drastic adjustment of the lineup, we have to give up this year’s ESL One Raleigh tournament. However, a new journey has already begun, and we are about to welcome the PGL Wallachia S3 tournament.”
Over the past year, Chinese teams have experienced a mix of highs and lows in the Dota 2 competitive scene.
XG kicked 2024 off with a bang securing first place in the Games of the Future 2024 event in Kazan, Russia. In March 2024, the organisation secured third place in DreamLeague Season 22, earning $120,000 (~£93,100) for their efforts.
However XG ultimately fell short in last years TI, when the team was eliminated early by Tundra Esports Dota 2 team. This crushing defeat marked the worst performance in China’s history competing in TI.
