Amanda Seyfried is gearing up to return to TV in her new crime drama Long Bright River. The Peacock limited series is adapted from Liz Moore’s novel which follows Mickey Fitzpatrick, portrayed by Seyfried, who is juggling single motherhood and the demands of her career as a police officer patrolling a neighborhood severely impacted by the opioid crisis. When a series of murders begins to impact the neighborhood, the story becomes more centralized around Mickey's past with her missing sister and how this puzzle piece will help solve these cases.
"It's not just a TV thriller; it's about what sex workers and addicts go through. It is about humanity and empathy. It also features police corruption, and then, of course, there's a tie-in with this cop who is missing her sister, who is a severe addict," Seyfried told L'OFFICIEL in her March 2025 cover story. "When you go to Kensington, you see a place where people struggle. Sitting in the back of a car driving through for the first time was eye-opening. It was quite a world to jump into. I feel so glad to have learned more about it. I never knew about harm reduction programs. There are so many blind spots in my life as a 39-year-old. This is why I love acting; I can take jobs and grow from them."
Seyfried is set to deliver another astonishing performance in Long Bright River, which is expected of someone of her caliber as her acting prowess has enthralled audiences for over two decades. Her acting career began in the early 2000s with successful films like Mean Girls (2004), Mamma Mia! (2008), Les Miserables (2012), A Mouthful of Air (2021), and Seven Veils (2023). Her acting abilities know no bounds and she's evolved her career gradually and organically to be where she is now.
The television series stars the Emmy-winning actor along with Nicholas Pinnock, Ashleigh Cummings, Callum Vinson, and John Doman in this gripping suspense thriller. Seyfried is taking on a dual role as the leading actor and as the executive producer working alongside showrunner Nikki Toscano, who’s worked on The Offer and Hunters, and also directed the sixth episode in the eight-part limited series.
Moore and Toscano collaborated on the screenplay for the Peacock series and Hager Ben-Asher is joining the crew as director and executive producer of the first and fifth episodes of the limited series. The thriller is set to premiere on March 13 with all eight episodes set to release then.
