Dog Wash Conversion

I have a 10 year old shower pan in my basement that the previous owner started and left unfinished. I want to turn this into a dog wash but need to make it wider for my larger dogs. My plan is to add a tiled extension to the right side (outlined for this photo by 2x4s, the laundry sink in the photo will be moved out of the way) that would slope into the shower pan. I was thinking I could build a curb around the extension, fill it with hard pack with the proper slope as a foundation for the tile so that it would drain into the shower pan. I'm a little lost on the waterproofing of this though. If I lay down a PVC membrane on top of the hardpack that would run over the lip of the shower pan then it appears I need a minimum of 1 .5" of mortar on top which then makes the transition into the shower pan too high. Can I just apply Redguard to the hardpack and then thinset and tile? Is there a better way to do all this? submitted by /u/ohldguy [link] [comments]
