ESL’s DreamLeague Season 25 Grand Final match between Team Spirit and Tundra Esports announced a delay in light of a recent DDoS attack.

However, some Dota 2 fans aren’t buying it, with several users on X accusing Team Spirit of lying and intentionally delaying the game to rig the results.

Team Spirit has seen great success in Counter-Strike 2 and the Dota 2 scene. Making it to the Grand Final of DreamLeague was continued proof of the team’s capabilities it seemed. Team Spirit as in the lead 2-1 when the attack struck.

In a post made on X, the organisation stated that the ‘fourth map of the DreamLeague Season 25 Grand Final’ was subject to DDoS attacks from an undisclosed third party.

The post read: “This became possible due to a vulnerability inside Steam / Dota 2. We are doing everything possible to eliminate the threat and want to continue playing Dota without problems as soon as possible.”

Pro Team Spirit players Magomed ‘Collapse‘ Khalilov and Denis ‘Larl‘ Sigitov reportedly experienced issues with their Steam accounts around the 18-minute mark.

Collapse also commented on the situation on his official Telegram channel. According to a rough translation, he recalled how the attack “threw invites to parties, chats, etc. for 100 pieces per second and Dota was simply crushed because of the number of requests.”

Spirit’s Delay Arouse Suspicion From Fans

The statement issued by the organisation was met with a mixed reception online. Some comments went as far as questioning the legitimacy of the attack during the match in DreamLeague Season 25.

The most popular response, with over 11K views, stated: “Who said [a] DDOS attack can be done to [a] specific account?”

There’s also a surge of copy and paste comments from several users highlighting alleged inconsistencies in the statement.

Multiple posts read: “Okay a couple of things… 1. First it was FPS issues 2. Now its a DDoS 3. You are not allowed a pause time above 10 minutes and you passed an hour 4. If it was a DDoS it would occur on all five players of the team and not just 2. 5. This looks very bad for your org.”

DreamLeague Map 4 Rescheduled

Team Spirit is determined to see the same success in Dota 2 as it did in 2024, although this year has gotten off to a rough start for the organisation.

Despite initial attempts to resume map 4, a decision was ultimately reached to end the match following Yaroslav ‘Miposhka‘ Naidenov suffering similar issues.

In a post on X, Team Spirit said: “The tournament organisers have decided to postpone the remaining maps of the DreamLeague S25 Grand Final.”

The Map 4 showdown between the two esports teams to determine the DreamLeague Season 25 victor will now take place on March 4, 2025, at 16:00 CET.

Theories were still being cast about in the comment section. Only now, the overall sentiment shifted in a different direction, voicing a shared disdain for the ‘bet mafia.’

A new conspiracy theory suggests a user from a Dota 2 betting site may have attacked Team Spirit during the finals to possibly favour Tundra, unbeknownst to either team. Though this speculation and is currently unconfirmed.
