Elden Ring is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2.
Nintendo revealed the somewhat unsurprising but still thrilling news today during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct. It's currently unclear how the Switch 2 version of FromSoftware's open-world masterpiece will stack up against versions that launched on other platforms previously, but its presence during today's presentation promises to bring the unforgettable experience to Nintendo fans sometime this year.
Elden Ring has proven somewhat of a cultural phenomenon since it was released in February of 2022, selling over 13 million copies in a month and nearly 29 million at last count, seeing bosses beaten using the Nintendo Switch Ring Fit controller, and setting off wildly ambitious speedrunning challenges. It was followed up with the incredible Shadow of the Erdtree DLC in 2023, and upcoming cooperative spin-off Elden Ring: Nightreign is looking good based on early, public network test sessions.
In our 10/10 review, IGN said: "Elden Ring is a massive iteration on what FromSoftware began with the Souls series, bringing its relentlessly challenging combat to an incredible open world that gives us the freedom to choose our own path." Shadow of the Erdtree also got a 10/10 from us: "Like the base game did before it, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree raises the bar for single-player DLC expansions. It takes everything that made the base game such a landmark RPG, condenses it into a relatively compact 20-25 hour campaign, and provides fantastic new challenges for heavily invested fans to chew on."
