Forza Motorsport’s 20th Anniversary Update makes it potential Racing Game GOTY contender for 2025
Forza Motorsport's 20th Anniversary Update is one of those batches of content drops that can radically overhaul how you see a game, and it can even qualify as a new launch for 2025 (and the best racing game). My go-to racing game over the last couple of years has been Forza Horizon 5 (yes, I was late to the party), and it has grabbed a special place in my heart since. I have played Forza Motorsport in bits and pieces, but the 20th Anniversary Update has grabbed all my attention. The last few hours of playing it haven't been joyous, but I had to force myself to remember that this isn't a new game. Forza Motorsport's 20th Anniversary Update is a gift from the Gods 2025 hasn't been a good year so far if you're a fan of racing games. The biggest announcement of the first quarter has been the entry of Forza Horizon 5 on PlayStation (says a lot). Like many, I have been desperate to see a glimmer of hope in some form, but the 20th Anniversary Update was certainly not on my Bingo card. From the outside, you might be wondering what's so special. After all, the core gameplay hasn't changed. The graphical aspects remain the same. You won't be wrong with those assumptions, but the amount of content that has been dropped as a free update is nothing short of magnificent. In fact, I can't remember when an update of this scale was made available in the Forza universe. All major 20th Anniversary Update content in Forza Motorsport The shining light of the new update is the Fujimi Kaido destination, which is a paradise for those who love to drift. The 16.5 km long track offers elevation, which allows you to observe the thrill of driving down a tough terrain. This is the perfect challenge to test any driver – you can perform speed bursts when required, but you'll also have to be careful with the turns (all 144 of them!) One of the most beautiful aspects of Forza Horizon 5 is the ability to just drive for fun. The new Meetups system added as part of the update is the perfect way to bond with your friends on the virtual platform. There are no rules, restrictions, or stipulations. Just select a car you love, and jam with your buddies doing whatever you want. The new update has four different types of Meetups, and you can join and leave seamlessly if you want to try something more competitive. Image via Xbox While Fujimi Kaido has everything you need to fall in love with Forza Motorsport, my favorite is the new steering wheel features. You can now enjoy full-fledged steering wheel calibration, allowing you to micromanage how you want your car to talk on the track. No longer will you have to rely on general calibration for all vehicles. To truly test this feature, make sure to use race cars, as they will have fewer degrees of steering lock-to-lock. Forza Motorsport's 20th Anniversary is the perfect tribute to the series The developers have left no stone unturned to make fans fall in love once again with all the previous games. The "20th Anniversary Tour" is a permanent addition in Career Mode, and it will have nostalgic moments from all the older games of the Motorsport franchise. Forza Motorsport 3: Get ready to drive the cover car from the third installment of the series - the very beautiful 2010 Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro. Forza Motorsport 4: You get to ride one of the most beautiful cars ever made in this universe, the 2009 Ferrari 458 Italia. Forza Motorsport 5: The scene changes as you encounter a speed demon in the form of the 2013 McLaren P1. Forza Motorsport 6: The sixth installment is being represented by the 2017 Ford GT. Forza Motorsport 7: The final installment is being represented by the 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS. Completing the full tour will help you unlock the 2022 Acusa NSX Type S and the Nissan Z NISMO, both of which are making their debuts in the series. Completing the Spirit of Motorsport tour also allows you to take all these vehicles. If you're still not satisfied with these cars, there's a special car pack available as well (you'll have to spend extra, and it's not part of the Premium Edition). To celebrate the occasion, there are plenty of weekly and seasonal challenges that you can enjoy in Multiplayer to win more rewards. Do I believe Forza Motorsport will win GOTY in the sports and racing games category this year? No, because it's not a 2025 release, and we know what the rules are. However, the game's 20th Anniversary Update has been more than an actual full release in many ways, making Forza Motorsport the racing game to play in 2025 once again.
