GTA 6’s supporting cast, like Boobie Ike and Real Dimez, sound like Rockstar classics already
I haven't had much of a chance to breathe yet after this morning's surprise drop of Grand Theft Auto 6's second trailer, but I'm already fiending for more info about the game and its characters. A GTA game's supporting cast is just as important, if not even more so, than the main characters you take control of. Rockstar Games always adds the most interesting, colorful, silly, and memorable characters to the franchise, and GTA 6 sounds like more of the same, and that's fine by me. Image via Rockstar Games For every Tommy Vercetti, there is a Lance Vance, and for every Niko Bellic, there is a Little Jacob. So while the attention is largely on Jason and Lucia, the game's Bonnie and Clyde-like protagonist duo, I wanna know more about those around them, and the game's official website is full of teasers that has me ecstatic. For example, Jason's friend and celeb chef Matty Matheson lookalike, Cal Hampton. Good ol' Cal here is a conspiracy theorist who's quoted as saying, "there are way too many birds flying around in perfect formation," which makes him sound like a perfect lampoon for his real-life counterparts who think everything is fake and part of a simulation. Cal "feels safest hanging at home, snooping on Coast Guard comms with a few beers and some private browser tabs open," according to his description on the GTA 6 website. On the more serious side of things, there's Boobie Ike, "a local Vice City legend" who is "one of the few to transform his time in the streets into a legitimate empire spanning real estate, a strip club, and a recording studio," Rockstar says "Boobie's all smiles until it's time to talk business." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQRLujxTm3c Boobie has a partnership with a "young aspiring music mogul" named Dre'Quan Priest, who "was always more of a hustler than a gangster," and is trying to make it big in the industry by signing young musicians like Real Dimez, a rap duo comprised of Bae-Luxe and Roxy, described as "girls with the savvy to turn their time shaking down local dealers into cold, hard cash via spicy rap tracks and a relentless social media presence." When the music business turns into a bit more than rhymes and Dimez, there's Raul Batista, "a seasoned bank robber always on the hunt for talent ready to take the risks that bring the biggest rewards." And there's no GTA without some drugs to go along with the crime and money, which is where Brian Heder comes in, "a classic drug runner from the golden age of smuggling in the Keys." Main character Jason is working for Brian, doing his dirty work in exchange for living rent-free at one of his properties. All of these characters sound like classic GTA, as in they are caricatures of real-life people who are meant to expand and enrich the story as foils for Jason and Lucia. And I genuinely can't wait to meet all of them.
