Marvel Rivals has recorded its lowest number of concurrent PC players on Steam since the game’s launch in December last year.
According to Steam DB, the hero shooter has dropped to nearly 152,000 peak players, a far cry from its 644,000 all-time peak earlier this year.
Ever since Season 2: Hellfire Gala debuted, the game has been entering a slow decline. Peak player counts have ranged from 150,000-200,000 from April to May 2025. However, on May 6th, Marvel Rivals finally dropped to a low of 151,917 peak pc players.
It’s important to note that this is not representative of the game’s entire player base, as it does not include consoles. Events like the monthly PlayStation Cup indicate a sizeable number of players on those platforms.
It’s also still performing strongly compared to its competition. As of writing this article, it’s the 13th most popular game on Steam Charts. The game falls behind established titles such as Apex Legends, PUBG: Battlegrounds and Counter-Strike 2.
The game is also still doing well compared to Overwatch 2, which recently released its Stadium mode. Granted, Overwatch’s metrics don’t take into consideration its console player base or the many users on Battle.net.
Is Interest In Marvel Rivals Declining?
There are a lot of reasons why interest in the game could be waning. The buzz that came from its initial release may have finally diminished, as casual players move on to newer, trending titles.
Recently, there’s been a lot of frustration with the game’s balance, a divisive topic in the community. With players still feeling the effects of the support strike a few weeks back, and previous issues with ranked and its performance-based system, it’s possible that some pc users just aren’t enjoying this season at the moment.
However, player interest could all change later this May with the upcoming Marvel Rivals Ignite, NetEase’s first major tournament for the hero shooter. With $3m (~£2.24m) up for grabs, a lot of eyes will undoubtedly be drawn to the event. As such, it might prove to be the jumpstart the game needs right now.
