How can I find a replacement spring for my lift-top coffee table?

TL;DR: Where would you go to find a spring like this? https://imgur.com/a/QiyHj8n -Length ~ 5" (coil is ~3.5"; each hook is ~0.75") -Diameter ~ 0.75" -30 coils So a few nights ago we heard a really loud BOIUNKsskrrt sound in the middle of the night, and it turns out that was the sound of one of the springs on our lift-top coffee table's riser mechanism snapping. I like to think I am pretty handy, so this seemed like an easy fix -- just go to the hardware store and get a spring the same size, right? Wrong. This is my first time shopping for extension springs, so I didn't really know much about them, except that they do what they do... I just assumed you'd go to Home Depot and there would be a huge bay of springs somewhere and you could find the one you needed, lol. Well, at least in my case, the HD near me only had like a few packs of Everbilt springs that didn't match what I needed, so I went to Ace. They have an entire wall of springs from various brands in different sizes and colors and shapes and hooks, so I was like "clearly this is what I need." Nope. There were some that were pretty close, but still >1/4" off in length, fewer coils, etc. Am I screwed? Or can I use a longer spring? (I've also measured its length and diameter in inches and centimeters, and counted the number of coils, and searched on Amazon/Google, to no avail... It looks like the coil is about 3.5", and the hooks are 0.75" each, so 5" total length, with ~0.75" diameter) submitted by /u/aetheos [link] [comments]

Wrong.
