Gen.G has destroyed Paper Rex to become the second team to qualify for the VALORANT Masters Toronto playoffs.
Moving forward, one of the first-seed teams will choose the Korean powerhouse as its opponent for the opening round of playoffs.
After Gen.G secured its spot in the next stage, Kim ‘t3xture’ Na-ra was asked about the team he’d prefer to face, and he didn’t hesitate to pick G2 Esports.
“I don’t want another regional matchup in the playoffs, so I’d rather not face RRQ. As for the team I’d like to go up against, I’d pick G2,” he said.
Gen.G hasn’t lost a single map so far in the tournament and is considered to be one of the top contenders for the title. In fact, four of its players, including t3xture, Jung ‘Foxy9’ Jae-sung, Kim ‘Karon’ Won-tae, and Ha ‘Ash’ Hyun-cheol, currently rank among the top five highest-rated players in the event.
If Gen.G lifts the trophy, it would be the team’s second Masters title in two consecutive years. Coincidentally, today is also the day Gen.G lifted the Masters Shanghai trophy in 2024, and the team’s IGL Byeon ‘Munchkin’ Sang-beom feels ‘it’s a signal that someone up there is looking out for us.’
“As a player and competitor, we always want to win the whole thing. Hopefully, this is a good sign for us and we’ll be able to go all the way, and take the trophy just like we did last year,” he added.
With the VALORANT Masters Toronto playoffs beginning on June 12th, Gen.G will only have two days to prepare for the next matchup.
The team’s opponent will be decided on June 11th after all Swiss Stage matches conclude, and fans will be able to watch the selection live on VALORANT Champions Tour’s official Twitch and YouTube channels.
