Does Marvel Rivals support crossplay? That’s what we’re here to answer. We’ve been playing NetEase Games’ superhero-themed hero shooter since it released late last year, and are going through whether you can play with your friends on the supported platforms, and any restrictions that may occur between casual and ranked play in 2025.
We’ll also be going over the current state of Marvel Rivals cross-progression between platforms, whether it’s implemented, and what this could mean for the game in its current state. Marvel Rivals Season 2 launched on April 11, 2025, with its Hellfire Gala bringing a range of buffs and nerfs, as well as team-up changes, map changes, as well as introducing Emma Frost and Ultron to the roster. We recommend staying up to date on all of ESI’s Marvel Rivals coverage for all future updates.
Is Marvel Rivals crossplay?
Marvel Rivals crossplay is fully supported across gamers on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC for its casual modes; however, ranked crossplay support is currently limited to PlayStation and Xbox, with PC being isolated. This is due to the vast differences in control method (and therefore precision) afforded by going from a controller to a keyboard and mouse, with PC gamers (debatably) having a leg up over those on Xbox and PlayStation users at a higher level.
The full list of Marvel Rivals crossplay modes supported in 2025 include Quick Match, Conquest, Custom Game, and Practice, so you can jump into (almost) anything in the NetEase hero shooter whether you’re using a PlayStation or Xbox console as well as PC, just so long as you don’t want to engage in ranked against computer players.

Supported Marvel Rivals platforms
Marvel Rivals platforms include the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. There are currently no plans to bring the game to the likes of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, nor any word received on when we could see a native MacOS port of the game. While there’s technically a workaround to side-load Marvel Rivals on Mac computers using the CrossOver emulator, doing so can result in a permanent account ban from NetEase Games, so it’s not a recommended way to engage in the colorful caped combat just yet.
It’s not entirely all doom and gloom for prospective Nintendo gamers who want to play Marvel Rivals. That’s because one of the game’s producers, Weicong Wu, outlined that the team has “already been in contact with Nintendo” and hopes the new Switch 2 could “provide great performance” for the release (via IGN). While NetEase was adamant that its title could not run on the near-decade-old Nintendo Switch hardware (featuring the Tegra X1 chip), the vastly improved hardware in the upcoming second-generation handheld could sway things in the future.
Full Marvel Rivals crossplay details & player count
As touched upon above, Marvel Rivals crossplay is fairly encompassing across the entirety of the free-to-play hero shooter, with the only real restriction being placed on the game’s competitive scene. If you’re playing on either an Xbox Series X/S or PS5 console, then you’ll have complete crossplay (including ranked) for Quick Match, Conquest, Custom Game, and Practice without issue. The restriction only applies to ranked play on PC against console due to the concerns around the control method.
According to SteamDB, Marvel Rivals PC players account for daily averages of around 80,000 people, with the usual 24-hour peak currently hovering around the 180,000 player mark. The game peaked three months ago (around the Marvel Rivals release date of December 2024) with 644,269 players, as those on Steam booted it up for the first time. Those numbers may not sound like much in isolation, however, Marvel Rivals is consistently one of the most-played games on Steam, confidently ranking in the top 10 among esports greats like CS2, Dota 2, and Apex Legends.
While the Marvel Rivals player counts for Xbox and PlayStation platforms are harder to lock down, it was confirmed that the game had been downloaded more than 20 million times shortly after its launch late last year. The company is yet to announce newer figures; however, we can gauge based on these figures that Xbox and PlayStation make up the remaining 19,355,731 downloads, when excluding Steam’s confirmed all-time peak. That means there are a lot of people to play with, so you shouldn’t struggle to find a game anytime soon.
Does Marvel Rivals have cross-progression?
Marvel Rivals cross-progression is currently not live in Season 2 of the game, meaning you are not able to take your progress from PC, Xbox Series X/S, or PS5 to another, even though you have to make a bespoke account to play in the first place. That means that all of your unlocks and achievements made on Xbox will not carry over to PlayStation or PC, so we recommend sticking to one system instead of switching between multiple (if you’re lucky enough to own multiple game consoles or a respectable gaming PC).
NetEase Games is well aware that its player base has been demanding Marvel Rivals cross-progression for some time, but it has yet to implement it. Shortly after the title’s release late last year, the game’s creative director, Guangyun Chen, explained how: “Cross-progression involves a lot of platform-specific rules” and that the team is “still looking at it and how to solve it”, assuring players that: “once we’ve figured it out, we’ll be sharing to everyone and players will be the first to know” (via Dot Esports). It’s been a few months since then, and still no official timeline of when it will be added, other than the promise that it could happen at some point soon. We’re hopeful that it could be included in Season 3, but this is purely speculation on our part.

How to disable Marvel Rivals crossplay
It’s straightforward to disable Marvel Rivals crossplay if you would prefer to stay in your lane and only game with people on the same platform as you. For PS5 gamers, all you need to do is head into the settings menu, and then find the “Social” tab from the horizontal menu (or scroll down the drop-down list) where “Cross-Platform” will be on a dedicated toggle switch. You can simply disable (or enable) it with one button press. With that said, crossplay is forced on by default on PC, so you cannot turn it off when playing the Steam or Epic Games version; the only workaround is to play ranked, where you’ll only be paired with other PC players.
The game outlines how “this option affects your team invites and requests” and how “if it’s not aligned, players can’t join forces”, gently prodding you to keep Marvel Rivals crossplay enabled for the duration of play. If you’re playing on Xbox Series X/S, it’s not that simple, though. Instead, the game prompts you to go to the console’s Account settings and then open the “Privacy & Online Safety” tab and then “Xbox privacy”, then “View details and customize”, and then “Communication & multiplayer” to ‘Block’ the option of being able to “join cross-network play”. This could, hopefully, be smoothed out in a future update, instead of disabling crossplay for all your Xbox games.
Conclusion
Marvel Rivals fully supports crossplay between PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC for all of its casual game modes without issue, even if console players cannot currently play ranked with those on PC. Unfortunately, there’s no Marvel Rivals cross-progression right now, despite the team claiming they are hard at work trying to implement it. Disabling crossplay on PS5 and PC is as easy as toggling a slider, but it is a little more long-winded on Xbox Series X/S right now, requiring a workaround. In short, you can play with all your friends and have a great time.
