What Is the Theme and Dress Code for the 2025 Met Gala?

The exhibition and theme, titled "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," explore the rich history of Black dandyism and its lasting impact on fashion. Originating in the eighteenth century, the term “dandy” described a middle-class man who dressed with meticulous care and took great pride in his appearance, often seen socializing in stylish settings. Black dandyism carries a more profound significance. Introduced during the transatlantic slave trade, it became a powerful form of self-expression and resistance. By embracing the aesthetics of European fashion, Black men used style as a means of reclaiming identity, asserting dignity, and challenging the structures that sought to dehumanize them.

To coincide with the exhibition, the dress code is "Tailored for You", inviting guests to interpret the theme of tailoring and menswear in their own unique way. This is one of the first Met Gala themes that has a main focus on menswear.
