Questions for installing floating shelves
I’m looking to install floating shelves in my new office similar to the picture attached. My current plan is to install 3 shelves using 3 8ft long 2x12s each sitting on a set of 4 of the attached brackets. My main concern is when I anchor these brackets into the studs that only 1 side of the back can be screwed into the studs and the other half would have to go into the drywall. So I’m left with these questions: The product description states “…it can securely support up to 150 lbs…” does that mean 150lbs per bracket (roughly 600 per set of 4) or a total of 150lbs? I’m assuming I’ll need to use anchors with the screws that only go into drywall. Is there a specific kind of anchor I’d need for a project like this? If the first bracket has the left screws go into the stud but the right go into drywall do the rest of the brackets need to follow that same pattern or could that flip if I needed to have the right go into the stud and left into drywall for some reason? Is there a max length where the shelves would become too long to remain stable or would 8ft be a reasonable length? And lastly the included screws are 1.57” are those long enough or should I get longer screws to make it more secure? Thanks for all of y’all’s help! I’m sure I’m overthinking a lot of this but this is my first house and I’m nervous I may destroy something if I don’t think through this enough submitted by /u/WTXraider17 [link] [comments]
