Stone floor finishing

Stone floor finishing The house my family is in has had a room with stone floors for several decades. Every 5 or so years, we've just been scraping off whatever varnish comes off, then just re-varnish it. I think my parents have been using wood varnish, since we've usually got some on hand. This time around, we've not started anything yet, and I was hoping someone could give some ideas or tips for doing a proper job of sealing the floor. My current thoughts were to take the time to use a solvent, such as acetone, to get rid of all the old varnish, then look at sealants vs finishes, etc. I halfway jokingly suggested resin to my mom, but I don't know how exactly we'd go about it, or if that's a good idea with the stone, especially since the floor isn't a smooth, flat surface. We know very little in this department, and I'm trying to find a way to keep us from just painting varnish on the floor every few years. It is a highly textured floor, and some spots have a height difference if probably close to a full centimeter. At this point, we're welcoming any advice someone's got. I'm personally really hoping to use something that'll last, and ideally not damage the stone. submitted by /u/FeralGoblinChild [link] [comments]
