The YEEZY Website Has Been Shut Down
YEEZY.com has been taken offline follwing Ye's recent antisemitic tirade on Twitter and selling of a swastika-emblazoned T-shirt on the YEEZY webstore. As of Tuesday morning, the site's landing page has been replaced by a single screen that simply reads "This store is unavailable." In a statement to the New York Times, a spokesperson for Shopify — the e-commerce platform that hosts the YEEZY webstore — said that the YEEZY online store “did not engage in authentic commerce practices and violated our terms so we removed them from Shopify.”On Sunday, YEEZY ran a 30-second commercial in select markets during the Super Bowl, encouraging viewers to patronize his site while sitting in a dentist's chair. “I spent, like, all the money for the commercial on these new teeth,” he says in the commercial. “So, once again, I had to shoot it on the iPhone.” Previously, the YEEZY webstore had offered a variety of goods from T-shirts to sweatpants and shoes, all priced at $20 USD Shortly after the ad aired, however, that selection of goods was pulled from the site and replaced by a single white T-shirt with a black swastika named the "HH" (likely shorthand for "Heil Hitler," a Nazi Party rallying cry) tee. Fox, the Super Bowl's broadcast partner, has yet to comment on the content of the advertisement. “The swastika is the symbol adopted by Hitler as the primary emblem of the Nazis,” said the Anti-Defamation League, a non-government orginazation founded to combat antisemitisim, bigotry and discrimination, in a post on X. “It galvanized [Adolf Hitler's] followers in the 20th century and continues to threaten and instill fear in those targeted by antisemitism and white supremacy.”Ye's antisemitism has landed him in hot water before: he was suspended from X/Twitter in 2022 after a deluge of offensive messages, and reinstated a month later. When his account was reinstated, he issued an apology via an Instagram post written in Hebrew — a message that was widely assumed to have been written by AI. At the time of writing, YEEZY has yet to make a statement on its suspension from the platform.Click here to view full gallery at Hypebeast
