This Season's Show-Stopping Haute Couture Looks Are Big on Volume
Bold dimensions and inflated shapes make larger-than-life statements.

Couture is a distinct place in fashion where creativity and wild imagination can shine brightly. The custom pieces often lean into something more artful and avant-garde compared to more commercial (albeit still fabulous) ready-to-wear clothes. Such is evident in the L’OFFICIEL’s latest womenswear editorial, which is featured in the May 2025 issue which claims Ciara as its cover star. In the imagery, lensed by Bohdan Bohdanov, there is a clear play on volume, between oversized silhouettes and sheer fabrics caving in on their wearer.
A deep red Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown in one image boasts a voluminous skirt, almost like a blown-up bubble hem, topped with a fitted bodice and asymmetrical neckline. In stark contrast to that bold shape is a Dolce & Gabanna frock, with see-through and airy layers that leave a ghostly medley of lines around its wearer. Whether the shape of the clothes is larger than life and clinging to the body, it's clear that Spring/Summer 2025 haute couture continues to toy with this central motif.
