Where to Watch Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning in IMAX and 4DX

Mission: Impossible is back, allegedly for the last time. Given that Tom Cruise reaffirmed his desire to make movies into his 100s and that the Oscars are finally adding a category for stunts the year after this movie would be eligible (lol), I’d be more surprised if The Final Reckoning actually ended up being that final.

Still, even a theoretical finale deserves a proper celebration, especially when we're talking about one of the best action franchises of all time starring a guy who has a (justified) documented obsession with things playing on "the big screen."

In the follow-up to 2023’s Dead Reckoning, IGN’s review describes Cruise’s Ethan Hunt continuing to risk “life, limb, and the fates of millions, this time in pursuit of stopping The Entity.” Expect stunts galore, mostly performed by Cruise himself, as well as tons of references to previous movies in the franchise.

If you’re planning to watch the new Mission: Impossible movie, we’ve gathered info on available theater formats and when it should be available to stream.

How to Watch Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning

The new Mission: Impossible movie releases in theaters on Friday, May 23. You can check for showtimes near you at the main theater links below:

Available Formats (and Which Is Worth It)

Aside from standard digital, Mission: Impossible will be taking over the major Premium Large Formatting (PLF) screens across most theater chains. Keep in mind that not every theater location offers every type of film format, so the best starting point is figuring out what’s available in your area. Here’s what I’d recommend looking for:

IMAX

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning will have a three-week window in IMAX, taking over from Thunderbolts*. More than just a “bigger screen,” IMAX is generally the cream of the crop of theaters, offering 4K laser projection and a six-channel surround sound system.

The new Mission Impossible was filmed with this format in mind, and as such was shot with IMAX-certified digital cameras (specifically a mix of Arri Alexa Mini LF, Sony CineAlta Venice, and Sony CineAlta Venice Rialto). According to IMAX, the movie features “over 45 minutes of IMAX's exclusive 1.90:1 Expanded Aspect Ratio.” If IMAX is an option in your area, it’s the one I recommend making a priority.

4DX

The fun one. Think strobe lights, weather effects, and being thrown around in your chair. 4DX offers an experience beyond the movie you’re watching, ideal for those looking for something memorable who don’t mind the occasional distraction from the screen itself.

When Can You Watch It at Home?

The Final Reckoning will eventually join the rest of the Mission: Impossible franchise on Paramount+. Recent Paramount movies, like Novocaine and Sonic the Hedgehog 3, landed on the streaming service about two months after arriving in theaters. Assuming a similar timeline, Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning will likely be streaming on Paramount+ by the end of July.

Catch Up on the Mission: Impossible Franchise

If you’re trying to catch up or rewatch the series before watching the grand "finale," all of the Mission: Impossible movies are streaming on Paramount+. For those trying to avoid another streaming subscription, they’re also available as physical releases.
