This month marks the beginning of PUBG Esports’ 2025 competitive season, leading to the annual Global Championship.
Here is everything you need to know about the upcoming PUBG Global Series 7 and 8 in Shanghai, China.
The PUBG Global Series (PGS) 7 and 8 are the first two major championships in the 2025 esports calendar. Both offer a $300,000 (~£232,000) prize pool as well as PGS Points, which are used to determine team rankings and qualification for the final Global Championship.
PGS 7 will kick off this month, running from April 28th until May 4th. Meanwhile, the second tournament will take place from May 12th-18th.
PUBG Global Series 7 & 8 Format
Both events will feature a Group Stage and a Final Stage. First, the 24 participating teams will be divided into three Groups (A, B and C) to compete over three days. Each day will feature six matches, with the top 16 teams advancing to the next stage.
After a rest day, the Final Stage will see three days of competition with six matches per day. The team that emerges at the top of the leaderboard after 18 games will be crowned the champion.
PUBG Global Series 7 & 8 Teams
PGS 7 and 8 will each feature 24 teams – 10 Global Partner teams and 14 rosters qualified through the regional Phase 1 & 2 leagues.
The following Global Partner teams for the 2025 competitive season were announced in February:
- On Freecs
- Earena
- Four Angry Men
- Gen.G
- NAVI
- Petrichor Road
- Team Falcons
- The Expendables
- Twisted Minds
- 17Gaming
These teams are guaranteed a spot at every PGS event this year. Unsurprisingly, Vietnamese esports organisation The Expendables received a partner slot for the first time after winning the 2024 Global Championship.
However, Championship runner-up TSM announced the disbandment of its roster at the beginning of the year without sharing the reason behind the decision.
PUBG Global Series Regional Qualifiers
The qualifiers for each region are:
- Americas – PUBG Americas Series
- EMEA – PUBG EMEA Series
- APAC – PGS APAC Qualifier
- China – PUBG Champions League
- Korea – PUBG Weekly Series
While the full list of participants for the PGS 7 is not out yet, some teams have already secured their spots following the conclusion of their regional qualifier. Geekay Esports, BB Team and Virtus.Pro qualified through the EMEA Championship last weekend.
Moreover, the Americas Series 5 concluded on the same date with El Proyecto, BESTIA and Working in Silence advancing to PGS 7. Yesterday, Theerathon Five, Daytrade Gaming and Forest Natural Gaming made it to the event through their APAC Qualifier.
