Call of Duty League pros react to possible wall running mechanic in Black Ops 7

Players competing in the Call of Duty League have shared their initial thoughts surrounding the next instalment of the Call of Duty franchise.

Rumoured to be Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, the title will reportedly see the return of the wall running movement mechanic for the first time since 2016.

Following the discovery of a wall running mechanic within the files of Black Ops 6, speculation surrounding an evolution of the Omnimovement system has continued to grow.

After announcing his retirement from Call of Duty esports on May 23rd, 2025, 2020 CDL champion Indervir ‘iLLeY’ Dhaliwal could consider returning to competition if Black Ops 7 actually features advanced movement mechanics.

Dhaliwal isn’t the only retired player considering a return if Black Ops 7 and its rumoured wall running mechanic can provide an engaging experience. 2015 world champion Dillon ‘Attach’ Price said he would consider picking up the controller again: “If it’s a jetpack game, if it’s a fun game, I might be interested.”

Wall running first arrived in Call of Duty in 2015 with the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. For the next three years, the ability to run along walls and jump to greater heights became a mainstay of Call of Duty esports, providing a skill gap and the implementation of the popular Uplink game mode.

If Black Ops 7 does include wall running, the title would be the first time the Call of Duty League has featured a title that includes the mechanic since its inception in 2020.

The addition of wall running also offers the potential for the CDL to remove Control as its third game mode. In previous wall-running titles, Uplink has joined Hardpoint and Search and Destroy in the rotation.

With the Black Ops 6 cycle now in its second half and with the CDL’s Championship Weekend on the horizon, attention is turning towards Call of Duty’s next release. The return of wall running has the potential to entice former pros out of retirement, in addition to building a skill gap.
