DIY 1950's Ranch Bathroom Remodel - Before and After

We hated our (one and only)! bathroom when we moved in last year and justified a complete remodel when the toilet was leaking into the basement due to rotted subfloor caused by un-levelness. $12-14k quotes were too much for us, but we didn't want to do it halfway, so I went to YouTube university (Home Renovision DIY was a God Send) and got to work. We gutted and re-did our bathroom from start to finish in 1950's ranch style home. Had never done anything like this before (Plumbing, Drywall, Electrical, Tiling, Tub/Waterproofing, Vanity, Toilet, Vent Fan and Finish Items). Loved every step and all the learning that went with it). Only thing outsourced was electrical work due to some shorts we found when we cracked open the walls. Biggest Lessons Learned: - Buy more than you need an just return later - Don't use black fixtures if your water is really hard. We have accepted it, but the white stains begin instantly - Subway tiling takes forever if you do it the 'right way' with back buttering every tile. Probably unnecessary, but worth it. - Kerdi gives you peace of mind, but it way overpriced. There are cheaper/messier options that achieve the same end and you are left with so much extra material in a normal project that you don't need anyway. - When tiling, have a LARGE playlist or book to listen to. I had the radio on and heard the song Manic Monday more than I'd ever care to hear again. Overall cost was $4,004 including tools and rentals. https://preview.redd.it/kw4h2vupx9ne1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d4cef374d049845e247a74f617d8f0b527f73424 https://preview.redd.it/v09beoupx9ne1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=043c60390d6263ac731d65391866115c95b60e45 https://preview.redd.it/2wbk6oupx9ne1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7e6f626bb841ac2543eaca934b62a897beb626c3 https://preview.redd.it/8ukagnupx9ne1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2bd5ec1dac0fdcc95b7e1d615802e07d8e419ed6 https://preview.redd.it/6n7cxvupx9ne1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=88344fe515f87a5b2d93b59fd50f40ed7d506a39 submitted by /u/MickGenius09 [link] [comments]
