Using R-5 Foamboard for floating floor under porch
I am insulating a 3 season porch to make it a 4 season porch. Currently the floor is carpet on subfloor and open 2x10" joists underneath. With that said, the exterior siding sits about 6"- 8" from ground. The joists are raised up about 14" from the ground underneath the porch. So no direct moisture or sunlight will hit the new floating floor. I will rip up the carpet and sub-floor and then tack 1x1 strips to the bottom inside edge of each joist. This will be the support for the floating floor. Considering doing just R5 1" foamboard and then R19 6" fiberglass batt and then new subfloor. Or, I can do 1/4 or 1/2" treated plywood first and then add foamboard / batt or do the plywood, skip the foamboard and just add the batt? In a case like this, where no sunlight or direct moisture would occur, can I get away with just doing exposed foamboard bottom since it will not have ground contact and will be elevated about 6"- 8" higher than the exterior siding walls? Or would treated plywood just be a better option from a strength and durability standpoint? I would prefer to do it as correctly as possible, but also don't want to do extra work if not necessary. submitted by /u/ZealousidealTeam3275 [link] [comments]
