North American esports organisation FlyQuest has announced Duel Land, a Magic: The Gathering (MTG) creator event that will take place on June 14th-15th.
Duel Land will see creators from the MTG space clash against personalities from the gaming and esports sector using cards and decks from the new Final Fantasy set, which is set to release on day one of the event.
Announced on FlyQuest’s social media channels, the event will feature American collectible card game player and streamer Brian Kibler and esports personality Travis Gafford, who is also known for playing MTG. The event is backed by presenting partner Archidekt, a popular online tool for building and managing MTG decks.
What is Duel Land’s Format?
The tournament format will see 16 creators (eight from MTG and eight esports personalities) be paired to compete in the 2v2 tournament, using a 2-Headed Giant format. This means that all players will be together in a single game. All players will have to build decks from a sealed pool of Final Fantasy cards.
The event, which spans across two days, will first see a group stage that will determine the top two teams from each group advancing to the bracket stage. In between the two phases, there will be a Commander Showmatch featuring the cast from EDHREC
The winner of the bracket stage will receive a cash prize and will be able to donate $5,000 (~£3,695) to a charity of their choice. All matches will be livestreamed on the official FlyQuest Twitch channel.
“I want to personally thank FlyQuest for bringing this event to life. They really want to create something awesome for the existing MTG fans and for those who have yet to read their very first cards,” said Travis Gafford in the announcement video.
FlyQuest is a North American esports organisation that was purchased by the Viola family office in 2022. The organisation is known for its recent success in the League of Legends esports scene, having won the final LCS championship this year and competing in the newly formed Legends of the Americas (LTA).
