MPL Philippines, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang’s professional regional league, has recorded its highest peak viewership ever during the finals of its 15th season.
According to esports data platform Esports Charts, the final series between ONIC Philippines (ONIC.PH) and Team Liquid saw a peak of over 1.8m viewers, beating the previous record of 1.6m from the last season.
The average viewership during the season was also much higher compared to season 14, reaching nearly 200,000 average viewers (192,071) across 162 hours of airtime.
What Team Won MPL Philippines Season 15?
After sending Team Liquid to the lower bracket with a dominant 3-0 series, ONIC faltered against the opponents in the final rematch.
The incredible seven-game series between the two finalists was the main driving factor behind the new record, with Team Liquid emerging victorious. The organisation not only took home the MPL title but also $46,560 (~£34,493) of the $150,000 (~£111,126) prize pool.
The final series was the only match to surpass one million in peak viewership, with the second most-watched match being the playoff series between ONIC.PH and Aurora Gaming. The former continues to be the team driving interest in the competition, as four of the five most-watched series this season featured ONIC.PH.
YouTube was the preferred platform by the viewers, peaking close to 1m (955,684), with TikTok coming in second place at 636,893.
Despite the new record, MPL Philippines is still far from reaching the numbers recorded in the near MPL Indonesia, which is yet to determine its two representatives at the MLBB Mid-Season Cup.
Several MPL Indonesia regular season matches this season were able to surpass the new record set by the Philippines, according to Esports Charts. With the playoff stage yet to start, the peak viewership is expected to be even higher going forward.
Both ONIC.PH and Team Liquid will now be heading to the MSC, which will take place during the Esports World Cup later this summer in Riyadh, featuring a total prize pool of $3m(~£2.22m).
