Hyped for GTA 6? New report says Rockstar will roll back clock with remastered classic while fans wait
The Grand Theft Auto 6 hype reached new heights after its release date was revealed, but now, all that's left is time to wait. And play other GTA games, of course. And when it comes to GTA games, there's not a ton to choose from. But current-gen consoles could be blessed by a re-issued version of one of the best games of all time very soon, if a new report is to be believed. Image via Rockstar Games The exciting news today comes from a notable Rockstar Games insider/leaker named Tez2, who claims a remaster of Grand Theft Auto IV should be out sometime in 2025, followed up by a remaster of Max Payne 3. When asked about a potential port of GTA 4 for modern-day consoles, Tez2 said that "Someone at [Rockstar] hinted at the IV port, and by now it should've gone up a year in development," musing that "we may end up seeing it drop this year." GTA 4, shockingly, just turned 17 years old last month. First launched for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2008, it became a fan favorite with its depiction of Liberty City, along with its star Niko Bellic and other colorful characters. It's assumed that the game would also include The Ballad of Gay Tony expansion on top of the base game, with suped up visuals like 4K resolution and higher frame rates than before to justify the re-launch. Rockstar has released remastered versions of several of its games in the past, including Red Dead Redemption, and GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas as part of a bundle that stumbled out of the gate before being supported with multiple necessary updates to fix issues. Image via Rockstar Games Remastering GTA 4 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, along with an assumed upgrade for existing owners on PC, would go a long way in helping gamers wait for May 26, 2026, when GTA 6 is scheduled to drop.
