Replacing Sliding Patio Door - Recommendations on where to order from?
Hello, r/DIY! I posted this in r/renovations a few days ago and was told by the moderator there that I wasn't allowed to ask "where can I find this?" or "find me something cheaper." To be clear, I'm not asking either of those questions. I'm asking for people who have had a good experience with a certain brand/vendor to let me know so that I can look into them myself and ultimately make a decision on which door to order. Original Post Our sliding patio door has needed replaced basically since we bought our house (or even before) - the locking mechanism doesn't work and there's a bar that swings down into a notch to "lock" it and prevent it from being open. It is very hard to open and close and embarrassing when we have visitors. Moisture has also gotten between the panes so the view is cloudy in some areas. It's a standard 72"x80" door, so we don't need anything custom. We also had our windows replaced a couple of years ago and got black exterior/white interior windows, so the door will need to also be black exterior/white interior. It also needs to be a right-hand sliding door. Doesn't need to be the cheapest, but would prefer for it to not be the most expensive either. I have a family member who is going to actually replace the door, I'm here looking for recommendations on places to order the new door from. We have Lowe's, Home Depot, and Menard's big box stores nearby, and I've looked on their websites and none of the doors have very many ratings, and the ones that do have a decent number of reviews seem to be very mixed. I understand that things sometimes get damaged during the shipping process, but I was hoping that there would be one or two models that jumped out as being more reliable. This one from Lowe's, for example, has a 3.5 star rating and the highest single rating percentage is 5 at 47% but the 1, 2, and 3 star ratings add up to 41% so that doesn't inspire a ton of confidence. The other options only have 11 and 13 reviews which aren't great sample sizes. Basically, if anyone has had a good experience with any specific models that can be ordered and shipped either to my house or to Lowe's, Home Depot, or Mendard's that would be greatly appreciated! I'm not sure if a picture is required/desired of the current door, but since it's dark outside now I can take one tomorrow and upload it. Thanks! submitted by /u/cease70 [link] [comments]
