Can I remove this pipe from my front yard?

I have a house built in the 50s. This maybe 1” diameter open ended pipe is sticking up about 6 inches out of the ground in front of the patio. I’d like to remove it because it’s right around where our kids run around and play and I don’t want anyone landing on it. I’ve dug out about a foot into the ground, and it wobbles a bit, but I can’t see what, if anything, it could be connected to. I know it’s not a part of our irrigation system. Does anyone have any idea what it might be for? If there’s any way this could be a stopper for the the gas line or something then obviously I don’t want to wrench it out. But if it’s certainly inert then I want to yank it. Some tree roots are nestled around it, so I can’t easily dig it out further, but I’m pretty sure I could pull it out with brute force if I tried. submitted by /u/amused_seal [link] [comments]
