Who is Mia Threapleton? Meet Hollywood's Next Big Star (and Kate Winslet's Daughter)

Mia Threapleton—remember the name—as she's sending (positive) shockwaves through Hollywood as she rises to stardom. The acting gene runs in her family, after all. She is the daughter of Kate Winslet, who many may know from a little film called Titanic, and film director Jim Threapleton.

Her career in Hollywood is flourishing thanks to her role in Apple TV+'s period drama, The Buccaneers, and the 2022 TV series Dangerous Liaisons, based on the 1782 novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses (Dangerous Liaisons) by Choderlos de Laclos. Threapleton was born in October 2000 to Oscar-winning actor Winslet and her then-husband Jim Threapleton. She's the oldest of four and has two younger brothers, Joe and Bear, and a younger sister, Georgia.

The actor has been candid about her parents' decision to keep her and her siblings out of the public eye until she decided to change that. She decided to pursue acting at 14 years old and was cast in a small role in a film called A Little Chaos, which her parents didn't know about. Despite having a relatively normal childhood, Threapleton craved more, and with the creative desire that runs in her family, it's understandable.

Her parents divorced when she was one year old, but they remained amicable after the process for their daughter's sake. The Holiday actor has juggled the demands of Hollywood and motherhood with grace, revealing in a 2017 interview with Harper's Bazaar that Winslet doesn't rely on private chefs or drivers where her family is concerned and that she prefers to do these mundane tasks herself. 

"I would be so unhappy if I had those things, and I wouldn't feel like I was being a real person anymore," Winlset said to Harper's Bazaar. Her kids also preferred to have meals cooked by their mother and to drive in the car with her. Moments like these become core memories later in life, so Winslet and her children were wise enough to take advantage of them. Despite having a famous mother, Threapleton has remained under the radar thanks to her last name and has been truly able to pave her own way.

Winslet and Threapleton have shared the screen together in the 2022 anthology series I Am Ruth. Mother and daughter were acting alongside each other, equally impressing the other. Threapleton has confirmed time and time again that she values her mother's insight and the hard-working ethic that she instilled in her and her siblings is something she treasures even more now.

The young actor is making her film debut with Wes Anderson's The Phoenician Scheme, starring alongside big Hollywood names like Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, and Benicio del Toro. In a recent interview with Elle, the 24-year-old actor recalled being nervous before meeting the director. "I was a bit nervous initially [to meet Anderson], but then he opened the door and was wearing pink socks and slippers, and I wasn’t nervous anymore,” Threapleton said. She's been following the director's work since she was 12 years old after seeing his film Moonrise Kingdom, which she revealed inspired her to want to act and one day work with him.  

The Phoenician Scheme is set for a theatrical release on May 30.
