Disney is begging you to watch Andor, a good Star Wars TV show

Andor: A Star Wars Story season 2 is coming to Disney Plus on April 22, and the message coming from Lucasfilm and the Walt Disney Company has become increasingly loud and clear: “Will you please watch this show?” In fact, the first three episodes of Andor season 1 are now free on YouTube, and the whole thing is now streaming on Hulu, Disney announced Monday.

At this point, Disney’s practically begging you to watch Andor, going by recent trailers for season 2. Two weeks ago, Disney released a trailer for Andor season 2 that hoped to convince would-be viewers that this is a really good TV program. Critics loved it, according to that trailer. But even if you ignore the critical consensus, Andor is also fun and action-packed Star Wars content; the trailer teases that Andor season 2 will have explosions, gun fights, X-wings, and dancing. Never mind that the dancing is part of an arranged marriage ceremony that senator Mon Mothma was forced to agree to in order to hide her finances from Imperial scrutiny, because Andor season 1 was partly a serious space drama about banking. Forget about that for now — this show is going to be fun, and Cassian Andor is a cool guy who doesn’t look at explosions.

They even put some country rock music — Steve Earle’s “The Revolution Starts Now” — behind that trailer. Yes, composer Nicholas Britell will be back to score season 2, so don’t worry, there will still be Star Wars Music for Andor’s return.

Please, the writer-director of Michael Clayton made this show. That’s Tony Gilroy. He also wrote all but one of the Bourne movies, and three of those were pretty good! Please watch Andor, you can imagine some Disney executive saying to you personally, reminding you of Tony Gilroy’s work on salvaging Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which grossed more than $1 billion at the box office.

And why wouldn’t they try to convince you to watch Andor by now? The show had a reported $645 million budget for its two-season run, and a lot of talented people worked really hard on this. It’s really good!

Andor season 2 will premiere on Disney Plus on April 22, with three episodes. Disney and Lucasfilm will drop three more episodes on April 29, three more on May 6, and three more on May 13. That will put the entirety of Andor season 2 within the window of contention for the 2025 Emmys. And when the show is likely nominated for and wins a ton of awards, you’ll be there, saying, “Yeah, I loved Andor. Season 2 was just as good as the first — maybe better!”
