DIY Deep Cleaning Help for High-Pile Wall-to-Wall Carpet with Lingering Pet Odor?
Hey everyone! I recently moved into a bedroom with high-pile shag carpet that’s tacked/glued down (it's part of the flooring, not a removable rug). Before I moved in, the room belonged to my parents and their dogs. Over the years, there were accidents, spills, and it was spot cleaned by hand—not always thoroughly. I'm pretty sure the way it was cleaned wasn’t great for this type of thick carpet—lots of liquids used, and I doubt it ever fully dried properly after "deep cleans." Now, a large section of the carpet/floor smells bad and anything sitting on that spot (blankets, clothes, even my skin) picks up the odor. I’m looking for advice on: - The best way to deep clean this type of carpet at home (products, tools, methods) - How to get rid of deep-set pet smells (and if anything special is needed for high-pile fibers) - How to make sure it dries properly afterward to avoid mold/mildew or making the smell worse I know hiring a professional is probably the best solution, but that isn’t an option at the moment so I'd love to try a serious DIY method if possible! Also, replacing the carpet isn't really an option right now either. Thanks in advance! TL;DR: Need help deep cleaning a wall-to-wall high-pile carpet with lingering pet smell from years of accidents and bad spot cleaning. Looking for DIY tips, products, and how to dry it properly. submitted by /u/Various_Elevator_792 [link] [comments]
