Encouragement and advice needed!
18 months ago, my husband and I got three estimates for a small master bathroom reno, all three of which came in over double our budget. We decided to take it on ourselves. We did all the demo, reframing, and sheet rock, and had a pro-plumber move the drain and install the rough-in. (Not quite finished with the taping) But now, we're scared stuck. Partly because I'm unsure if my design preference is do-able. I would like to forego the step-in ledge (pic 2), and have a straight walk-in with either a half panel fixed glass wall/door, or a door that swinging into the shower. Aaaand parrly because if we screw up, we don't want water leaking into our kitchen below... which is our next big project. As you can see, we have a window to think about, which is even with the corner of the bulkhead. There also isn't much space between where the glass will be and the toilet. So the step I keep seeing in every video and photo would eat up space we don't have to spare. •Would the entire bathroom floorplan need to have the waterproofed membrane if we forego the ledge? •Is it possible to do with a centered drain instead of a linear drain? •Should we remove the linoleum floor or tile over it? •What kind of (floor) tiles would be easiest to make this happen, or what kind should we avoid? •Anything else I'm not considering? I'm pretty handy, but I haven't really done anything of this scope, nor with such risk. Am I crazy to take it on myself? Appreciate any feedback? submitted by /u/DC_Huntress [link] [comments]
