Overwatch 2‘s Wuyang is set to release during Season 18 as its latest hero, but not much is known about the 44th addition to the hero shooter’s character roster.

Esports Insider has gathered everything revealed so far about Wuyang, as well as discerning whether or not he will be viable in esports.

During its Season 17: Powered Up reveal, Overwatch 2 officially announced that it will make Wuyang’s hero trial temporarily available sometime in the new season in a similar fashion to Hazard and Freja.

We also know, based on the online roadmap, that Season 18 — when Wuyang is set to debut — is expected sometime during Fall of 2025.

The hero was initially revealed as ‘Codename: Aqua’ during the Overwatch 2 Spotlight. During the video, it was revealed that he is Chinese, will be a Support class hero and will have water-related abilities.

Jude Stacey, Senior Narrative Designer at Blizzard Entertainment, said: “Codenamed Aqua, this Chinese water wielder has one of the most unique ability sets that we have ever developed. You’ll learn more about him later this year.”

It’s been several months since then, and very few details have been revealed about the characters’ abilities and their functions.

Will Overwatch 2 Wuyang be Viable for Esports?

It’s hard to know for certain where Wuyang’s place will be in the current Overwatch meta as his abilities have yet to be revealed.

Given how dominant Freja has been in competitive, it may be difficult for Wuyang to become a top-tier pick if he lacks both good healing and strong survivability. Freja, at the moment, outputs too much damage and has a lot of escape tools at her disposal, so if she isn’t nerfed before Wuyang is released then he may struggle during matches.

Only time will tell if Wuyang can also topple the top Support characters in OWCS Stage 2 esports at the moment, such as Lucio and Kiriko.
