Improve water resistance behind the tile and shower surround?
I'm replacing my old glue-on bath surround which sits above 18" of tile coming up from the tub. When I pulled out the surround, I found the area between the bottom of the surround and the tile it meets had a lot of moisture and mildew issues. Maybe it was from bad or old caulking or another issue I need to learn about? I managed to clean and repair the drywall along the upper tile line without having to replace it.** Since it seems unique to have a bath surround above tile, I'm concerned I need some extra water-proofing or seal between the current tile and drywall. Before glueing on the surround to the drywall and sealing it with silicone between the tile and the shower surround, is there anything else I should do to make that area more resistant to moisture? Could I roll on a few inches of some water-proofing material like Redguard along the tile line? **We cannot take the tile or drywall down at this point submitted by /u/Jinja9 [link] [comments]
