A Surprising Diagnosis

In April 2023, Munn was diagnosed with luminal B breast cancer, an aggressive form that feeds on hormones. This came as a shock, especially since her mammograms and BRCA gene tests had returned negative. It was a proactive decision by her OB-GYN to use the Tyrer-Cuzick risk assessment tool that led to an MRI, revealing cancer in her right breast. 

Navigating Treatment and Fertility

Facing multiple surgeries—including a double mastectomy, lymph node dissection, and a hysterectomy—Munn was also concerned about her fertility. Before undergoing procedures that would induce surgical menopause, she and Mulaney opted for IVF, retrieving and fertilizing eggs, resulting in two healthy female embryos. This decision was emotionally charged, as Munn expressed a deep desire to have a daughter.

In September 2024, the couple welcomed their daughter, Méi, via gestational surrogate. The name Méi, meaning "plum" in Chinese, holds special significance, reflecting Munn's heritage.
