Sharon Stone Channels 'Basic Instinct' in Mugler's Archive-Inspired Campaign

Mugler just unveiled its latest campaign, "Re/edit," a sharp, sensual reimagining of 24 iconic archival looks spanning the visionary work of founder Manfred Thierry Mugler from 1985 to 2000. The star of the campaign? Legendary actor Sharon Stone, who is a longtime friend of the house (who walked its runway in 1992) and a perfect embodiment of its boundary-pushing spirit.

In a clever nod to her unforgettable role in the 1992 thriller Basic Instinct, Stone channels her Catherine Tramell charactery—a seductive, sharp-edged novelist whose provocative presence left a permanent mark on pop culture—in the new imagery. The campaign, lensed by Guy Bourdin and Helmut Newton, reinterprets that film’s infamous interrogation scene, not by replicating it, but by reclaiming its power. This time, Stone is in full control. Through her commanding body language, she embodies each silhouette with intention, playing into—and subverting—the voyeuristic gaze.

The Re/edit collection channels three core codes from the Mugler universe, per the press release, including sculptural tailoring, lingerie as outerwear, and red carpet drama. The tailoring celebrates Mugler’s trademark power dressing, like its famous razor-sharp shoulders, impossibly cinched waists, and body-mapping cuts designed to dominate a room. The lingerie-inspired looks recall Mugler’s radical sensuality: sheer panels, slip dresses, and corsetry worn with fierce confidence. And the red carpet styles? Elegance heightened by Mugler’s avant-garde flair for the theatrical.
